Educational Outreach

The DARWIN software development project includes an educational outreach component that aims to increase interest in math and computing among middle school students who might not otherwise be attracted to these areas of study. The visual nature of the project and the opportunity to learn about how scientists study this fascinating marine mammal have proved to be an engaging experience for those who have participated.

St. Petersburg area students gather field data on Boca Ciega Bay then return to the computer laboratory and learn to use the DARWIN software for analysis of that data.
